Longing – A Watercolor Painting of a Sunset over Beppu Bay.

A short cycle ride from my house takes me to the sea where I have seen many really beautiful sunsets. The peace you experience while watching the sun set over the sea brings you to a longing for something deeply precious that we lose so easily in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It is an encounter with the sacred and what really matters.

#34 ・ "Longing" ・ Beppu bay ・ 31.8 x 41 cm (12.5" x 16") ・ $220 ・

"Longing" is the provisional title of this painting.

If you have any other suggestions for a good title then please let me know. I really appreciate it.

I've changed several titles now because of other people's suggestions.

So here is your chance to name a piece of art.

This is a watercolor painting of Beppu bay.

I am truly lucky in this bay being just a short cycle ride from my house.

I have seen many really beautiful sunsets here.

The peace you experience while watching the sun set over the sea brings you to a longing for something deeply precious that we lose so easily in the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

That's my heartfelt sermon.

How about you? What do you experience when you watch the sun setting over the sea. Please share.

Thanks for reading and God bless you, Gareth.

Hi again, Gareth, “Longing” is a fine name for this beautiful painting. My 33-year-old daughter’s Grandfather met his future wife in Fukuoka while stationed there in the US Air Force. He and my daughter are taking a trip there in August. My ex-wife was born there and my son and daughter are 1/4 Japanese so I have special feelings for Japan (even though I’ve never been there). Your paintings are special to me for this reason–and because you capture beauty where it’s obvious (as in nature) and where one doesn’t always recognize it (as in the big city). Your work is beautiful and inspiring! Peace and happiness to you and your family, Aaron

Hi Aaron. It’s great to hear from you. Thank you for your comment. I’m glad you like the title. I just had to search my feelings about what the painting meant to me and then that word came. It’s normally not that easy though. And I’m so happy to hear that the paintings are special for you. I enjoy painting very much but sometimes that’s not enough to keep you going. That the painting can convey value to others adds a much deeper meaning and purpose to the whole endeavor. I wish peace and happiness to you and your family too. God bless, Gareth.
